September!

It's that time of year again!
September!

Time to break out the fall decorations, college football gear, and warmer clothes.
Time for cooler weather and changing leaves.
Time for fairs and festivals
Back to school and fundraisers

Time for awarenesses.
September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month.
Wear teal this month! Wear teal day was on the 2nd but that doesn't mean
you can't join in on the teal this month.
Not only will you be chic in the newest color trend
you'll be supporting the awareness of ovarian cancer!

Pink!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Breast cancer is so prevalent that everybody knows of someone who's had it. My grandma had it and a woman (Shirley) I worked with back home had it.
Fortunately, both of them caught it at a very early stage!
I've never done a walk for breast cancer and I would like to. Hopefully this year I'll be able to. I do wear pink though! I wear pink for my Grandma & for Shirley! Who do you wear pink for?

Fall, Where Are You?

This weekend was far from fall like for us! On Saturday we attended the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Foundation's 3rd Annual walk at Shelby Farms in memory of Mary Frances, Chris' friend's mom! They had an awersome turn out, even though, it was HOT!! The end of the walk was pretty emotional, with the releasing of doves, which I didn't know was going to be there! They had 15 survivors walking and they also released the doves! I teared up!

Driving in his car.

Sunday was pretty much a relatively lazy day! We spent the whole day at home and caught up on the domestic needs. I'm down to just ONE box that needs to be unpacked! It's about darn time!! Although it was 97 degrees outside, inside it was as fall as fall gets. Chris cooked up some chicken soup in the crock, which smelled delish, add the smells of cookies and fall candles, and one would've thought it was 70 degrees outside! I'm hoping fall gets to TN soon because I'm homesick for some New England fall!

Teal it in September!

September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. I discussed it a little bit in a previous post but I feel it deserves it's on post only because awareness for this disease is KEY! I've been fortunate enough to not have been affected directly by this but I've known people who have been affected! I've walked in walks with families who have been and I've learned about this disease because of these walks!

(Georgetown Cupcakes in DC! They look yummy!)

Ovarian cancer, also known as the "silent disease" or "silent killer" is an undetectable cancer and is so because of it's location. There are, currently, no tests to help diagnose so being aware of it's symptoms and catching it early is key! If caught early there is a 90-95% chance of survival! I'm no expert on the disease but there are organizations and foundations that do have the information! Kaleidoscope of Hope Foundation is the NJ based organization that I'm familiar with and the Ovarian Cancer Awareness Foundation is the Memphis based organization. There are a plethora of other sites to gain information from as well! Teal Toes is an organization spreading awareness by painting your toes teal! Teal Diva is also an organization spreading awareness to women in their 20s, 30s, and 40s about this disease. The organizer is a ovarian cancer fighter! Turn the Town Teal is another organization raising awareness by tying up teal bows around the town and distributing symptom cards and literature!

Why do I feel so compelled to get the awareness out there? Well first because of everything I said above but also if one person reads this and discusses it with another and then another and another and someone catches it in time well then I've done what every organization hopes to do! I've raised the awareness! And who doesn't want to do something good?! =) I also feel that these organizations, although many are up and rising, still don't have the attention, like other awareness groups do (for example: breast cancer). Plus, I like feeling like I'm a part of something and that I'm giving back to the community somehow! So this September raise awareness and wear your teal!

100 & Walk for Awareness

(image via)
Here it is my 100th post!
Thank you for reading and to my followers for following.
I love reading your comments!
Thank you
My 100th post doesn't come with a giveaway or a freebie, sadly, but I thought this would be a great post to share with you about a great awareness foundation.  September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month!
Back in 2008, Chris attended a walk for the Kaleidoscope of Hope Foundation, in memory of his best friend's mom, Mary Frances, who had passed away from the disease in 2004.  I never met Mary Frances but Chris always tells stories about her, her deep Irish accent, and has fond memories of her. I would've loved to have met her. In 2009, we both attended the walk, with Logan, for the same foundation, and Team Mary Frances, not only had increased their group size but their donations, as well!

This year Mary Frances' family and their friends will be walking for their 3rd year in a row! Unfortunately, we won't be able to walk with them BUT we did find an ovarian cancer awareness organization, here, in the Memphis area and they are doing a walk! The Ovarian Cancer Awareness Foundation is having their walk September 18, 2010 at Shelby Farms!! So if you're in the Memphis area or live around the Memphis area and are interested in walking for a great cause you should definitely look into this!

A Little Piece for Hope.

This was my Christmas present from Chris. It's part of Zales' collection called Shared Heart.  $5 from each item purchased from the collection goes towards Autism Speaks, an organization that conducts research for this disorder. So I'm happy that I got a beautiful piece but also that his purchase for me will also donate help for someone else.
